Welcome to Day 1 of the Wedding Speech Crash Course.

Does the thought of getting up in front of a crowd and giving a wedding speech terrify you to no end? Do you start perspiring and feel like you're about to have a heart attack?

You've come to the right place. In this course, we are going to discuss how to overcome your fears, calm down, and feel confident when delivering your wedding speech.

With preparation and confidence, there is NO reason why you cannot become a competent speaker.

Facing a crowd can seem overwhelming. You may worry that you will say the wrong things.

You can, however, learn to overcome your fear by being sure that you have all of information in an organized and well planned out fashion.

You must put your best foot forward. You want to keep your audiece's attention. You want to speak with conviction and deliver a marvelous speech that will be remembered for years to come.

Where do you start?

Start with your audience.

Audience analysis means learning as much as possible about the group of guests who will be at the wedding.

Audience analysis helps you tailor your speech to the people in the room (they will love you for that).

It also will help you avoid such awkward moments as mispronouncing somebody's name or saying a tasteless joke that insults the bride, groom, or anybody else.

Conduct your audience analysis by finding out the answers to such questions as:

*When will you speak?

*How many guests will attend?

*How long should you speak?

*Who should you thank for hosting the event?

*How should you address the people you thank (Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Uncle Pete and Aunt Jody, etc.)?

*How do you pronounce the names(s)?

*What should you say?

*What should you NOT say?

You can ask these questions to the Bride or Groom. Ask these questions as far in advance as possible. Things will get hectic for the bride and groom as the wedding approaches.

Conducting an audience analysis will ensure that your wedding speech is tailored to the audience on the big day.

Nervous about your speech?

Next time, we'll talk about some easy ways to control nervousness and make you feel confident.

See you next time.
